How to Properly Clean Your Gold-Plated Jewelry

To clean your gold-plated jewelry, you should be careful not to use improper materials that could cause discoloration.

One of the best and safest methods is to add a little dishwashing liquid (2-3 drops) to lukewarm or warm deionized water (about 1 glass) and let your jewelry soak for 10-15 minutes. After removing it from the soapy water, rinse it with warm running water and wipe it gently with a fine, soft cloth.

The video below shows a variation of the cleaning method described above, as suggested by YouTube user GoldFunction.

 Ultrasonic Cleaning

Ultrasonic jewelry cleaning can be an excellent way to clean your pieces, but it is important to note that not all types of jewelry are suitable for this method.Gold-plated and silver-plated jewelry are among the types that do not lend themselves to ultrasonic cleaning.

However, if you still want to use this method, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Fill the container of your ultrasonic device with clean deionized water, adding a tablespoon of ammonia. Do not use too much, as it can be harmful.
  2. Add some dishwashing liquid to the water.
  3. Place your gold-plated jewelry in the ultrasonic cleaner and run the machine for 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. After the cleaning cycle is complete, remove the jewelry from the cleaner and rinse it with clean water.
  5. Dry the jewelry with a soft cloth.

It is important to note that ultrasonic cleaning can damage delicate or fragile pieces of jewelry, so it is always best to check with a professional jeweler before using an ultrasonic cleaner on your items.
